Assignment 8A – Solving the Problem
~Product Ideas~
· My product has to do with the theft of scooters and moped,
with the potential of using the tracking system for other vehicles.
·
Some of you may have
heard of lock cables, disk locks, handle locks, and the various other products
available. However, customers who have used these products individually have
still gotten their scooter stolen, so there is a need for improvement. I would
like to have a product that not only combines the different kinds of locks
available but also has a tracking and alarm system in place to make for easier
recovery of your property.
·
There are a few
variations of this idea:
1.
Two-part system: The first part would
be to combine the disc lock with the chain lock. This would prevent the tires
from rotating and would allow the scooter to be attached to a pole or sturdy
object. The second part would be a handle lock, where the tracking system and
alarm would be built into. The handle lock requires a key and is the hardest
part to remove.
2.
Anti-theft kit: Sell all three locks as
a kit, and add a tracking device that could be kept inside the compartment of
the scooter. This would make it hard to remove the tracker, making recovery
easier.
3.
Scooter Tracker: Improve current tracking
systems, and possibly make it into a sort of “find my scooter” mobile system.
·
I want to have a product
that can be sold with the purchase of scooters. Making deals with scooter and
moped dealers to include these products with the purchase of a scooter would
benefit the seller and consumer.
·
I think scooter
dealers will want to sell these antitheft locks in order to attract more
customers. Many customers, including myself, are concerned about scooters
getting stolen as a reason to not buy one. Having a system being sold with the
scooter could promote more scooter sales.
Hi Mady! I love the idea of having the "Find My Scooter" tracking system incorporated into the lock. My car has a feature where I can see on my phone's maps app where my car is parked, so if I ever forget where I last parked my car, whether it's in a parking garage or at the mall, I can easily figure out where my car is. I think this is a great feature that would be super useful for people who ride scooters because all scooters tend to look the same. I also think it's a great idea to sell the product with the scooters. Partnering with the dealers would certainly help spread awareness for your product and encourage people to try it. Good work!
ReplyDeleteHi Mady, your ideas are really great and I would love for scooter companies to see this in order to benefit their customers. Just like Apple's app "Find my iPhone," it could be very helpful for students to have a scooter tracking app. I think that having locks will be the first step in preventing the stolen scooters, as it is much harder to hide breaking a lock. I agree that this safety additions would influence more people to buy scooters as the risk of thief is diminished.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of an optional anti-theft package that dealers could sell as an option with you getting a cut. That way your “Agents” would actually be trained in selling scooters and you would not have to pay them extra to sell your product. Also, offering your product online would be a good option, I do not see it doing well in a brick and mortar store on its own.
ReplyDeleteHi Mady! This is a great idea! Especially at UF where car and scooter theft is so common. Although I don't personally own one, I've heard of instances where the key from the same scooter company works on other scooters from the same company. Not only does in make theft easier, but it makes it harder to identify if the culprit, Having a system in place where you can track where your vehicle is would help police find stolen vehicles and items much quicker. However, the tracker should be in a place where the thief cannot remove it easily.
