Assignment 14A- Halfway Reflection
Tenacity and Paying it Forward
- At first, this class may seem easy and not require
that much time, because in the first few weeks there is only one relatively short assignment due. However, I quickly got rid of that mindset and realized how on top of everything you need to be. One of the behaviors that I have found vital to complete the requirements of this course is time management. The assignments normally require relatively lengthy interviews, which you have to give yourself time to complete with the actual written part of the assignment. I have also developed the skill of an entrepreneurial mindset. I have learned to think of why problems exist rather than just seeing them as problems.
2.
Tenaciousness is also
about attitude. Talk about a moment or
two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you
feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months?
What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
a.
I felt like giving up
after the syllabus week period when I realized that I would have to conduct
interviews weekly, complete 2 to 3 assignments each week, watch four hours of
lectures for very specific quizzes, and make embarrassing videos of myself. I
did not foresee the amount of effort that would go into this class. I have
learned to enjoy watching the lectures, as they are more conversational than
actual lecturing. I feel like I have learned to accept that I will spend 6 or
more hours a week on this class. This realization came after the first week
that we had three assignments and a quiz due when I realized it was definitely
achievable if I managed my time properly.
3.
Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about
(1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the
'tenacious mindset'?
a.
The best piece of advice
would be to watch the lectures, or make your class schedule so that you can
attend the lectures in person. I have not been able to due to other classes,
but it would make this class more manageable if I did not have to go rewatch
four hours of lectures on my own time. Trust me, the answers will never be on
Quizlet, as they are based on each individual lecture and the current examples
chosen for that day.
b.
Manage your time. Do not
put them off until Thursday or Friday and hope that the people you want to
interview are available to answer your questions. You will end up scrambling
and not getting adequate information to complete the assignment.
c.
Do assignments with
friends to bounce ideas off of each other. Sometimes when you are working on a
solution to problems, new perspectives can completely change how you approach
it or the information that you gather.

Hi Mady,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that time management is one of the most important skills necessary to succeed in this course. It is very important to be able to manage your time correctly and be able to turn in all of the assignments on time. It is very easy to lose track of time and forget an assignment is due. To help prevent this, it is recommended to keep a calendar and to stay up to date with every due date.
Hi Mady!
ReplyDeleteI agree that time management is fundamental to success in this course. You have to be able to plan ahead and make sure you set aside enough time to complete everything. Also, I'm right there with you when it comes to fear surrounding interviews. I was so stressed about conducting interviews, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and they have actually been really helpful for fleshing out my idea. I love your idea about working with friends to bounce ideas off of each other. I don't have any friends taking this course, but I have been talking with my friends and family about my idea to get more perspectives and figure out what I want to do with it.
